About us

Global Academic Publishing (GAP) is an imprint held through Academic Publishing Services, Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, Binghamton University, State University of New York. We are a non-profit entity specializing in short-run publications. GAP publishes peer reviewed books and journals for scholars.

Subject areas include, but are not restricted to: Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Judaic Studies, Islamic Studies, Christian Studies, Africana Studies, Geography, and Philosophy.

We offer Binghamton University faculty and staff access to a full service operation for journals with new or established editorial boards from production to distribution.

We also accept monographs and collections of multi-author original essays for consideration.

Internship

Global Academic Publishing sponsors 1-2 marketing internships (4 credits) every semester. As an intern you will have a chance to learn about the publishing industry while gaining professional experience. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented with a proactive attitude, a passion for writing and have interest in pursuing a career in publishing or other media related opportunities after graduation. You must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word and basic Internet research. Other design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher is a plus.

As a marketing/publicity intern you may be involved with:

  • Brainstorming and implementing marketing campaigns with team members
  • Publicizing and coordinating book display and promotional materials at conferences and events
  • Writing press releases and other materials
  • Pitching to media and booksellers
  • Creating and mailing promotional materials
  • Collaborating with media, authors, and booksellers on projects
  • Researching and updating media and bookseller contacts
  • Filing reviewer’s requests and following up
  • Assisting with daily departmental duties
  • Attending weekly staff meetings

Positions are only available for sophomores, juniors, and senior standing students. Interns are expected to complete 210 hours (16 hours/week) throughout the semester.
